(October 1, 2012) Portland, Maine – Maine Spine Surgery has become the latest specialty practice to join the Mercy Health System of Maine.
Led by neurosurgeons Dr. Lee Thibodeau and Dr. John B. Wahlig, Jr., the five-member team includes physician assistants Matt Johnson, PA-C, Sonya Justus, PA-C and Alan Hull, PA-C. Heather Skolfield is the practice manager.
Located at 195 Fore River Parkway, Suite 490, Portland, in the Medical Office Building, Maine Spine Surgery was founded on the shared philosophy that by focusing exclusively on the surgical treatment of spinal disorders, the team would deliver superior outcomes, decreased complication rates, and higher overall patient satisfaction.
“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” states Dr. Thibodeau, “Mercy has given me the opportunity to do something I really love – to focus my efforts on taking care of people with surgical spine problems.”
Maine Spine Surgery works in close consultation with primary care and referring providers to appropriately select and prioritize patients with surgical disorders of the spine. Surgical patients are treated by a consistent, hand-selected surgical team, and all post-operative recovery takes place in a guaranteed private room at Mercy.
“We have worked together for years,” explains Dr. Wahlig. “We now have the opportunity to form a specialized team at Mercy, concentrating on a model of spine surgery care that enhances the patient experience; a model that we believe will generate improved surgical outcomes.”
