PORTLAND, ME, OCTOBER 8, 2012 — McAuley Residence, a transitional housing program for at-risk women and their children operated by the Mercy Health System of Maine, is preparing to double its capacity by moving to what was formerly Portland’s Children Hospital at the corner of High and Danforth streets.
The new location for the McAuley program is currently under renovation by the building’s owners, Community Housing of Maine (CHOM). McAuley will occupy the “McAuley Wing” of the new building which will include sixteen transitional housing apartments with beautiful common space. The anticipated move-in date is in early January.
On October 25, on the eve of the program’s 25th anniversary year, a dinner and auction will be held at the Italian Heritage Center. Auction items include a week in Ireland, weekend spent at a private cabin in Rangeley and host of other exciting items. In its new location, McAuley will maintain the tradition of recovery and hope that was started nearly a quarter century ago by the Sisters of Mercy, and continue its successful program that allows women to access the invaluable resources of the Mercy Recovery Center, our Primary Care Centers and Mercy partners that includes Opportunity Alliance for parenting skills and Key Bank for individualized financial mentoring.
