ED Wait Times

ED wait times as posted on our home page are approximate and provided for informational purposes only. If you are having a medical emergency, call 9-1-1.

Mercy’s ED wait times are based on an electronic tracking system that averages the time from a patient’s arrival at the reception desk to when he or she is seen by a medical provider (physician or physician assistant). Our average wait times are updated hourly.

We use a triage system to prioritize incoming patients and identify those who cannot wait to be seen.

When a patient arrives in Mercy’s ED he or she is seen by a triage nurse, who utilizes a five-level Emergency Severity Index to categorize patients based on how sick or injured they are, from level one (most urgent) to level five (least urgent). All patients, whether they come in by ambulance or on their own, are triaged in the same way.

Directions (Mercy State Street Campus)

From Points North (I-95): Take the Maine Turnpike (I-95) south to Exit 48, Riverside / Larrabee (formerly exit 8). Turn left onto Riverside Street, go 1/10 mile to end and turn left onto Brighton Avenue (Rte 25). Follow 3 miles to the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine, then bear left on Bedford Street. At the intersection with Forest Ave. (Rte.302), turn right; after the I-295 overpass, bear right and continue south on Rte. 77 (State Street). From Points South (I-95): From the Maine Turnpike (I-95) take Exit 44, South Portland/I-295 (formerly exit 6A) and merge with I-295. Follow I-295 to Exit 6A (Forest Avenue south), turning right at the end of the ramp; bear right immediately onto Rte. 77 (State Street). Go up the hill and cross Congress Street; the hospital will be on your right at 144 State Street.

From Points South (I-295): Take Exit 5 toward ME-22/US-1A, keep left at the fork in the ramp, turn right onto Congress St, turn right onto State St.; the hospital will be on your right at 144 State Street.

From Points West (Rte. 302): Follow Rte. 302, which becomes Forest Avenue in Portland. Continue south on Forest Avenue into the center of Portland; after the I-295 overpass, bear right and continue south on Rte. 77 (State Street). Go up the hill and cross Congress Street; the hospital will be on your right at 144 State Street.

From Points West (Rte. 113/25): Follow Rte. 113 (Southeast) to Rte. 25 (East) into Westbrook. Once on Rte. 25 (Brighton Avenue), continue about 3 miles past the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine, then bear left on Bedford Street. Directions (Mercy Fore River Campus)

From Points North: Take I-295 southbound to Exit # 5A. At the end of the ramp you should be in the left-hand lane. Take a left at the traffic light and remain in the left-hand lane, continuing straight onto the Fore River Parkway. The main entrance and patient drop-off are ahead on your left. Follow signs for patient parking.

From Points South: Maine Turnpike North (I-95) to exit 42; take I-295 northbound to Exit # 4 (U.S. Rte 1). Cross the Veteran’s Bridge. At the traffic light you should be in the left-hand lane and turn left onto Fore River Parkway. Go through the next traffic light. The main entrance and patient drop-off are ahead on your right. Follow signs for patient parking.

From South Portland: Go over the Casco Bay Bridge, through the traffic light at the State Street intersection and stay in the right lane, turning right onto Park Street. Take another right at the stop sign onto Commercial Street. Head west on Commercial Street to the Veteran’s Bridge intersection. Proceed straight through the light, over the bridge and onto the Fore River Parkway. After the next traffic light. the main entrance and patient drop-off are ahead on your right. Follow signs for patient parking.

From Points West (Congress St. and Rte. 22): Heading east on Congress Street/Route #22 into Portland, turn right at the traffic light after Norway Savings Bank, following the signs for South/I-295/Route 1/South Portland. At the next traffic light you should be in the left hand lane; continue straight onto the Fore River Parkway. The main entrance and patient drop-off are ahead on your left. Follow signs for patient parking.


Directions (Gorham Crossing)

From Points North:
Take I-295 South to exit 5B (Route 22 W/Congress Street), turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp onto 22W/Congress Street.
Follow Route 22 West/County Road for 7 miles into Gorham.
Go through the light at the junction of Routes 114 and 22, and take your next left into the Mercy Gorham Crossing driveway.

From Points South: 
Take Maine Turnpike (I-95) North to exit 42 (US-1 toward Scarborough).
Go straight off the exit, then left onto Payne Road. Follow Payne Road 1.5 miles, turn left onto Gorham Rd/114 North. Follow for 3 miles, turn left onto County Road/114/22. Follow for one mile, go through the light at the junction of Routes 114 and 22, and take your first left into the Mercy Gorham Crossing driveway.

From Points East (Scarborough/Cape Elizabeth):
Take Gorham Rd/114 North for approximately 5 miles from junction with US-1. Turn left onto County Road/114/22. Follow for one mile, go through the light at the junction of Routes 114 and 22, and take your first left into the Mercy Gorham Crossing driveway.

From the West/Bar Mills area:
Follow Main Street East from Bar Mills; after it becomes Portland Rd. East/County Road/Route 22 East, follow for 7 miles.
Turn right at the junction of 114/22 into the Mercy Gorham Crossing driveway.

From the Northwest/Windham area:
Take Route 4 South/US-202 West, turn right onto Main Street/Route 25, then left onto 114/South Street. Follow for 3 miles.
Gorham Crossing is directly across from the light at the junction of Rts. 114 and 22.


Directions (Westbrook)

From Points North and South: On Maine Turnpike (I-95), take Exit 48 (Riverside/Larrabee) and go straight through intersection onto Larrabee Road; at next traffic light turn right onto Main Street. Follow Main Street into downtown Westbrook and past the Sappi Paper Mill. After passing under a railroad bridge, take the next right onto Park Road. Mercy Westbrook is on the left at 40 Park Road, Mercy Addiction Medicine is on the right at 50 Park Road.

From Points West: Take Route 302 into Westbrook. Turn left onto E. Bridge Street and follow for 1.4 mi. Bear left onto Park Road. Mercy Westbrook is on the right at 40 Park Road; Mercy Addiction Medicine is on the left at 50 Park Road.


Directions (Windham)

From points West: Take Route 302 to rotary at Fosters Corner. Enter rotary and follow Mercy Windham sign. Exit rotary and take left into Mercy Windham entrance.

From points North: Take Maine Turnpike exit #63 (Gray exit). Turn left after toll plaza and follow Route 202 to intersection of Route 302 at Fosters Corner. Enter rotary and follow Mercy Windham sign. Exit rotary and take left into Mercy Windham entrance.

From points South: Take Maine Turnpike exit #48. Turn right off the exit onto Riverside Drive. Continue to Route 302 and turn left. Continue to Windham; Mercy Windham is on right just before the rotary at Fosters Corner.

 


Directions (Mattina R. Proctor Diabetes Center)

From Points North: Take the Maine Turnpike (I-95) south to Exit 48, Riverside / Larrabee (formerly exit 8). Turn left onto Riverside Street, go 1/10 mile to end and turn left onto Brighton Avenue (Rte 25). Follow 3 miles to the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine, then bear left on Bedford Street. Directions (Physical Therapy Center)

From Downtown Portland: Head west on Congress Street/ME-22, out of downtown Portland. At the intersection of Congress Street and Stevens Avenue, the Westgate Shopping Center will be on the left.

From Points North: Take Exit 5 on I-295 South towards Congress Street/ME-22. There will be several forks in the ramp, keep to the right of all the forks. Move into the left lane, heading straight through the first lights and turning left onto Congress Street at the second light. The Westgate Shopping Center will be 0.5 miles ahead on the left.

From Points South: From the Maine Turnpike (I-95) take Exit 44, South Portland/I-295 (formerly exit 6A) and merge with I-295. Follow I-295 to Exit 5B and turn slightly right onto Congress Street/ME-22. Travel 0.5 miles and the Westgate Shopping Center will be on the left.


Directions (VNA Home Health Hospice)

From Points North: From the Maine Turnpike (I-95 South), merge onto I-295 S via exit 103 toward ME-9 / Gardiner / ME-126 / Brunswick. Take the ME-9 / Westbrook St. exit (exit 3) toward the Portland International Jetport. Turn right onto ME-9 / Westbrook St. At second traffic light, turn right onto Western Avenue. Turn left onto Foden Rd. VNA Home Health Hospice will be on your left just after turning onto Foden Road.

From Points South: From the Maine Turnpike (I-95 North) take Exit 45 toward I-295 / Maine Mall Rd / ME-114 / Payne Rd / US-1. Take the Maine Mall Rd exit toward ME-114 / Airport. Turn right at lights to go onto Maine Mall Rd (Maine Mall will be on the right). Turn right onto Gorham Rd. Turn left onto Foden Road. VNA Home Health Hospice will be on your right just before the intersection with Western Avenue.


Directions (Falmouth Internal Medicine)

From Yarmouth/Cumberland Foreside: Head South on I-295. Take Exit 10 toward I-95/US-1 and turn left onto Buckman Rd. Travel 0.3 miles and then turn slightly to the right onto US-I. Travel about a half mile and turn right onto Clearwater Drive.Travel about 0.4 miles and turn left to stay on Clearwater Drive. Portions of this road are unpaved. Mercy Falmouth Internal Medicine, #75, will be on the left and is in suite106.

From Portland: Head North on I-295 toward Falmouth. Take Exit 10 toward I-95/US-1 and turn slightly to the left, taking the ramp towards US-1/I-495. Turn left again onto Buckman Rd. Almost right away, turn slightly to the right onto US-I. Travel about a half mile and turn right onto Clearwater Dr. Travel about 0.4 miles and turn left to stay on Clearwater Dr. Portions of this road are unpaved. Mercy Falmouth Internal Medicine, #75, will be on the left and is in suite106.

From West Falmouth: Head East on Mountain Road. Mountain Rd. will become Falmouth Rd. Travel on this road for about 3.9 miles. Take a right onto Lunt Rd. Lunt Rd. becomes Depot Rd. Travel about 0.9 miles. Turn right onto US-I and travel 0.2 miles. Turn right onto Clearwater Dr and travel for about 0.4 miles. Turn left to stay on Clearwater Dr. Portions of this road are unpaved. From Cumberland Center: Head South on Main St./Rt. 9. Travel on rt. 9 for about 5 miles. Turn left onto Buckman Rd. for about a half mile. Turn slightly to the right onto US-I. Travel about a half mile and turn right onto Clearwater Dr. Travel about 0.4 miles and turn left to stay on Clearwater Dr. Portions of this road are unpaved. Directions (Standish Family Practice)

Mercy Standish Family Practice is located in the Colonial Market Place between Hannaford and the Post Office.

From Steep Falls: Head South on Pequawket Trail/Rt. 113. Continue on Rt. 113 for about 5.5 miles towards Ossipee Trail/ Rt. 25. Turn left and travel on Rt. 25 for about 2.4 miles. Turn right into the Colonial Market Place.

From Richville/Sebago Lake: Head Southeast on Richville Rd./Rt. 114. Travel about 2.7 miles. Take a right onto Northeast Rd./Rt. 35. Travel about 2.2 miles. Turn left onto Ossipee Trail East and travel for about a half mile. Turn right into the Colonial Market Place.

From Bonny Eagle: Head Northeast on Bony Eagle Road/Rt. 35. Continue on Rt. 35, about 4.7 miles, to Ossipee Trail East/Rt. 25. Take a right onto Ossipee Trail East and travel for about a half mile. Turn right into the Colonial Market place and Mercy Standish Family Practice is between Hannaford and the Post Office.

From Limerick: Head Northeast on Washington St./Rt. 11. Continue on Rt. 11 for 7.8 miles. Take a right onto Ossipee Trail East for about 7.5 miles. Turn right into the Colonial Market.


Directions (West Falmouth Primary Care)

From West Falmouth.  Start by heading East on Mountain Road toward Gray Road.  Turn right onto Gray Road and travel 0.7 miles.  Turn right onto Leighton Road and Mercy West Falmouth will be just ahead on the left.

From I-295.  Take Exit 10 toward US-1/Falmouth.  Travel 0.4 miles and turn right onto Bucknam Road.  Travel just 0.2 miles and turn left onto Middle Road followed by an almost immediate turn right onto Falmouth Road.  Travel 3.2 miles before tuning left onto Leighton Road.  Mercy West Falmouth will be just ahead on the left.

From I-95.  Take Exit 53 toward West Falmouth.  Turn left onto Gray Road.  Travel 0.3 miles.  Turn left onto Leighton Road and Mercy West Falmouth will be just ahead on the left.


Directions (Yarmouth Primary Care)

From I-295 points North:  Take Exit 17 toward Yarmouth and merge onto Route 1. Travel 1.9 miles and Mercy Yarmouth will be on the left hand side, parking is in the back.

From I-295 points South:  Take Exit 15 toward Yarmouth. Take a slight right off the exit onto Route 1. Travel 0.8 miles and Mercy Yarmouth will be on the right hand side, parking is in the back.

From Gray and points West:  Head Southwest on Portland Road/Routes 100/115. Turn left onto Yarmouth Road/Route 115 and travel 5.6 miles. turn right on onto Walnut Hill Road/Route 115. After 1.4 miles turn slightly left to continue on Walnut Hill Road/Route115. Travel 3.7 miles. Turn left onto School Street, travel just 0.1 miles and then turn slightly onto Route 1.  From I 295 traveling South: Take exit 3 (Westbrook Street). At the end of the ramp turn right onto Route 9. From Points West (Rte. 113/25): Follow Rte. 113 (Southeast) to Rte. 25 (East) into Westbrook. Once on Rte. 25 (Brighton Avenue), continue about 3 miles past the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine, then bear left on Bedford Street. At the intersection with Forest Ave. (Rte.302), turn right; after the I-295 overpass, bear right and continue south on Rte. 77 (State Street). Go up the hill and cross Congress Street; the hospital will be on your right at 144 State Street.

Patient and Visitor Parking is located on Spring Street. Turn right at the light in front of 144 State Street and the parking lot will be on your left.
